Hello hello hello! Life continues here in the quarantine camp!
Perhaps an explanation is in order.......... Earlier this week MTC presidency sent us all a very interesting email. It simply stated-
"Attention Missionaries, Ecclesiastical Leaders, and all employees: Effective immediately, please do not shake hands, hug, do fist bumps or elbow bumps. This no contact policy is in effect until further notice. Thank you for helping us to deter the spread of influenza. MTC Presidency"
So this week hive-fives and elbow bumps have all been banned on fear of sudden death. In fact, they even have a quarantine building for those missionaries who catch the plague. It's all rather exciting. One of of zone members was sent to the quarantine building and we haven't seen him for four days now....... We hope and pray Elder Davis is still alive.
In less exciting news, Spanish continues to progress. I still have a very long way to go before I sound like an intelligent member of society, but for now I will suffice with knowing how to teach lessons and how to swear in Spanish. (Not that I use those words, but hey..........Better safe than sorry!) (We have some stories.........) I love my companion to pieces. It's often pointed out to me that our personalities are very different especially in the level of preparation we put into our lessons, but I continue to appreciate the guy. We taught a fantastic lesson about baptism the other day which we were both pretty happy about! Now I mention a cello in the title of this email................... It turns out you can rent several intruments here at the MTC for free for an hour at a time, so this week we rented out our own little band and pretended we all knew how to play. I'm sure the lower floors appreciated us............. Eventually some of the guys started to figure out the cello. (Turns out if you can play base in a rock band, it gives you an idea on how to play the cello!)
My 4-square game continues to improve! The ABA, Blender, Master, and Apprentice continue to battle it out for dominance within the game. We do have one common enemy however......... If members of another zone attempt to infiltrate our four square games, they will face the wrath zone 26! Last week I received the assignment of sacrament coordinator, which means I have the job of assigning and setting the sacrament every week. I bet you're pretty jealous........ No it's good, and I enjoy it!
The zones not the same as it was a few weeks ago because we've lost some amazing guys, and the new ones are still really good, but don't seem to like the rest of us that much. Oh well, their lose. But this place is incredible! I love the people, teachers, and leaders! (Even if they ban high-fives and all physical contact of any kind.........) It's all good!
Another fun thing! I was able to be a New Missionary Host this week! What does that mean? It means I got to go tear families apart and make new Elders cry....... It was pretty fun! No, but when I see those new Elders going around I always enjoy calling them out as my Elder. They may belong to another zone, but as their host missionary I get to claim them! Things are awesome here. This week the biggest district in our zone were taking showers when their door closed and they became locked out of their room........... Armed only with the towels around their waists they sent their smallest member up into the ceiling, though a vent and with some string and duct tape managed to open their door. It was quite the feat! I'm telling you life is good!
I continue to work extremely hard. People have tried to help me break my addiction to studying, but to know avail......... Hopefully someday I'll overcome this, but not until I speak fluent Spanish!
The spirit is so strong here, and the longer I'm here the more I know and believe this church is true! Keep doing what you're supposed to. When we obey I know that we are blessed! I love you all, but that doesn't mean I have any interest in seeing any of you till I get back.
Love you all,
