Semana Treinta y Tres (Totally slab....... and other adventures!) (Greenville)

This week was totally slab! (And yes, I did just use the word slab in that sentence......)

From new words (Such as slab.....) to fry sauce, exchanges, and baptismal dates, this week covered it all! But let's start at the beginning.....

slab
s-l-a-b
adverb
  1. totally slab.
"that party was totally slab" "slab my friend"
    synonyms:cool, awesome, chill, fantastic, great

  2. Slab is the new word on the street according to the Heath District! Earlier this week Elder Bailey and I decided the world needed a new word....... and slab was born. Since then our whole District has started using it, and it's spreading! #totallyslab

We had a bunch of exchanges this week. After district meeting on Tuesday I went down to this slab, little area known as Wills Point with our zone leaders for an exchange. That was fun and a great learning experience. On the way back from that exchange we stopped some where that will change my life forever........... Buc-ee's

How to describe Buc-ee's........ Hopefully some of their simple yet humorous bill board signs will help to describe it.

  • "The Top Two Reasons to Stop at Buc-ee's: #1 and #2"
  • "Clean Restrooms, We Guaranpee It"
  • "Don't pass our gas!"
  • "Don't stay thirsty my friends."
  • "Don't worry, P happy"
  • "Epic Flush"

  • "If It Harms Beavers, We're Against It!"
  • "It's A Beaver!"
  • "No dancing the two-step in our restroom"
  • "Restrooms So Clean, We Leave Mints on the Urinals"
  • "The Eyes of Buc-ee's Are Upon You"
  • "Worth the Wait"
Buc-ee's is a MASSIVE Walmart sized convenience store, that prizes itself on the cleanest and largest restrooms in the world. Every Buc-ee's has over 100 fuel pumps........ Buc-ee's is living proof that everything is bigger in Texas. I could not believe this place.  It has every kind  of food imaginable, and everyone, and I mean every in Texas goes there.  Their mascot is a giant beaver named Buc-ee. They have giant, gold statues of him every. (Worshiping false gods...... possibly.) I felt like a tourist just walking around this monstrosity.

Besides that life changing experience, this was a great week! We set three more people on date this weekend alone! Elder Bailey and I working hard at every thing we do whether that be preaching the gospel, or having a waffle eating contest at a members house..... (Which I may or may not have won....). We are definitely seeing the fruit of our labors in Greenville, both in the way physical blessings such as bottles of fry sauce, and in spiritual blessings such as the progress of our many investigators. William is the name of one of one of our more recent investigators. He only has one leg, served in Vietnam, and loves to tell us how much the Lord has blessed him. Saturday we went over to teach him the Restoration. The spirit was so strong, and their was no reason to hold him back from a baptismal date. When we first invited him to be baptized he seemed a little hesitant, but after a brief discussion it clicked. It suddenly dawned on him. "So wait, you're telling me that the minister that baptized me didn't have the authority to baptize me? Man............. I'VE BEEN JIPPED!!" After that he promptly accepted a baptismal date for September 15th. Setting baptismal dates with people is simply the best.

Just wanted to leave ya'll with a scripture from my study of the old testament.........

Deuteronomy 5:29
O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children forever!

This is the Lord talking to Moses in this verse. I love this scripture for it's simple message. The Lord is saying, "if only my children would love me, and do the things that I have asked them to do. If they would just do those two simple things they would be happy forever!" Is life really that simple? I've come to see that it can be. The path to happiness is not some shrouded, mysterious wandering way. The Lord literally lays it before our feet and asks us to walk on it. It's that simple. If we follow him, everything will work out. Just some thoughts I've had recently.

Have a slab week everyone!

Elder Clark Fox

1. A treasured gift.......
2. Our second exchange with the Rowlett elders!
3. More pictures? Why not!
4. Back pack/fanny pack! (A member was only willing to let us in their house if we had fanny packs....... the superior proselyting bag!)
5. The great Buc-ee's!
6. A giant cross outside Wills Point!
7. The Heath District at district meeting......
