Semana Sesenta y Dos ("Am I going to hell?")(Río Trinidad, TX)

Buenas!

As usual another great week here in Rio Trinidad, and though the weather could have used some improvement (Elder Hodge, my trainee, made sure to keep me well informed as to how cold and wet it was outside....), we went out and slayed it this week. #lovebeingamissionary

Before getting to the highlights, a couple sad notes...... Two of my absolute favorite families we were teaching both dropped us this week for one reason or another...... That was sad, because both families were just starting to progress and were golden. Both hey, they have their agency.

With training my Spanish is "clicking" like it never has before. I'm finally beginning follow conversations, and though sometimes I still miss a lot it's a lot more than just a random word here or there that I'm picking up. So that's good. (and for me it's a lot harder to understand than to speak it.......)

One other fun thing from the week, I was on an exchange with another Elder named Elder Cox (Fox + Cox........ That was a fun combination to knock doors and introduceourselves with.), but during the exchange we came back to the apartment for dinner and realized we were locked out because Elder Hodge had the keys...... Missionaries don't let little things like this keep us from dinner especially when it's dumping bucket loads of rain on you. We jumped onto our back patio and using a wrench and a lot of pulling, tugging, and prying, we managed to break into our apartment via the sliding glass door. Or in other words success!

Now for my favorite spiritual highlight of the week! Saturday night we had a lesson with one of our new, but progressing investigators from El Salvador named Geraldo. (Yep, the same Geraldo from last week!) We started the lesson with a prayer and follwing up on his Book of Mormon reading, and seeing how he hadn't read a ton we started where he was and began to read more with him. Upon finishing a page he looked up and flat out asked, "Am I going to hell? What happens to me after this life?" Oh Geraldo, you don't know how questions like those excite a missionary! After that we totally changed plans and ended up teaching the Plan of Salvation. I love teaching, seeing people learn gospel truths that they had now idea were a thing. At the end of the lesson he kept saying, "muchisimos gracias!" (Thank you very very much!)

When someone says that it reminds you why you're out here, doing what you're doing, thousands of miles from home, in the freezing cold, riding a bicycle. That's missionary work.

Les amo!
